A One-Day Itinerary for Antigua, Guatemala

If you're anything like me you might find yourself in some of the most random cities in a random country. Maybe you even booked your flight the day before. Maybe you've had the trip planned for months. Well, I found myself in this random city called Antigua. Its random for me because I never heard about it but you might be different and thats why you're reading this. Orrrrrr maybe you're not so different like me and have no fucking clue what you're doing. Either way you're welcome to the party :)

I spent one day in Antigua, although im not an expert at this city and there is much more to see I think I had an amazing day seeing the city and wanted to share my itinerary with you while also including some ideas I also would've liked to do. You dont have to do everything in a day, these activities could be throughout a week... I just had one day to see and do as much as I could.

Qualification for travel advice - the few blogs I searched the night before flying to this country

  • Start your day off with a yoga or meditation session. Listen I hated yoga two weeks ago and now im obsessed. Its really nice to turn off your brain for a bit and get in touch with your body. A lot of hostels provide yoga sessions for cheap or even free. Guatemala is big on yoga!

  • Get yourself a yummy cup of coffee at one of the many cute cafes around town. Guatemala is known for their coffee and Antigua has some of the cutest cafes. After much research (3 minutes on google maps) I decided to stop by Raiz Cafe. I had the whole place to myself. The coffee was delicious and the views were even better.

  • Get responsibly lost around town. The best way to see a city is to just walk. Keep walking and walking. You will find some of the best hidden gems this way. Its a great way to see a city and do whatever you want.

  • Go visit the Santa Catalina Arch, probably one of the most famous picture spots of Antigua. It was quite crowded but the area had alot of shops and restaurants to visit. The Starbucks there is probably the nicest Starbucks.. no it is the nicest one.. Ive ever been to. I dont quite know why its so beautiful. While you're around the area check out the Central Park where everyone sits at. Its nice to walk around there for a bit but its quite small.

  • Make your own chocolate bar at the Choco Museum. I planned my day last minute so there weren't any spots for me but if you can a day in advance go try some local chocolates and make your own chocolate bar!

  • I would have to say my favorite thing I did was visit Concerto Santa Clara. Something about these ruins is just breathtaking. It was empty so I was able to run around and explore everything without anyone really in the way. The cost was $5 and worth it.

  • Have lunch at Antigua Brewing Company! The views from the roof are the best in town. The beer was also great so thats an extra plus. The vibes are brewery's are always good so put this place on your list. Two places I wanted to eat at but didn't were Por Que No and Tartines.

  • After your feelings a buzz walk around a bit more and explore. I decided to get a tattoo so if thats your thing... DO IT. There are a lot of tattoo shops here, I wish I could tell you where I got mine but I just stumbled upon it on the street of my hostel walking back to take an innocent nap. Sorry mom.

  • Catch the sunset from Cerro De La Cruz and hope its not a cloudy day like its been. Its a bit of a hike from town (30 minutes) so if thats not something you wanna do catch the set on a roof top. You can never go wrong with roof tops.

  • End the night on a pub crawl or visiting one of the many bars this cute little town offers. The Selina has an awesome bar but I found it hard to meet people. I'm currently sitting here having a beer seeing where the night goes but im partied out. If I wasn't I would for sure be out all night. Maybe next time.

Again, this was just my day here and I really enjoyed it so I wanted to share. There are tons of things to do like hikes and atv tours but home girl was just passing through and wanted to see as much as she could. If you visit any of these places defiantly let me know your thoughts or if you would like to share stuff you did I would love to hear! Over and out - T
