The Ultimate Guide for Lagos

After spending two amazing months living and working in Lagos I decided to compile my favorite "who, what, and where's" so you'll enjoy it as much as I did!

“Wet or fine, the air of Portugal has a natural happiness in it, and the people of the country should be as happy and prosperous as any people in the world.”

HG Wells

When I first decided to work in Portugal I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I actually picked this specific job because it was one of the few countries In Europe I had never been to. I'll be honest it was never really on my radar and that was my first mistake. Portugal has so many amazing cities who are all the same yet so different. Portuguese people are also some of the nicest, most welcoming people I've met. I traveled Porto, Lisbon, Sagres, Faro, and my all time favorite Lagos where I spent my two months in. Although I worked alot I also was able to explore so here's my list of who, what, and where!

Where to Stay

If you dont know, I did work in a hostel so most of my time was spent in one hostel called The Rising Cock Hostel. Not even being biased I would highly recommend staying there if you come to Lagos. Every night there are free pub crawls, boat parties every Saturday, free crepes by mama every morning, and just all around the best vibes. Everyone who came to stay usually ended up extending or coming back because it was just that much fun. I was only suppose to work there a month and came back for a second. Aside from this hostel there are a few more you can stay at... JJ's Yard, Top City, and Sol are some other popular choices. Lagos does have quite a few airbnbs which could be as fun but this is a town you'll want to make friends in because the night life is so much fun. Wherever you plan to stay just make sure its close to town so everything is 5-10 minutes walking distance. This isn't a town you want to rent a car in.

Where to Party

A quite relaxing beach town during the day but a wild party town by night. I had no idea such a small town could be that crazy and I enjoyed every single night I was there. When it comes to bars there are so many to pick from but here are my top favorites from a girl who was at them every single nigh (lol oops)

-Indigo Bar (best roof top)

-Beer and co (great beer choices and vibes)

-Whytes Bar (Phil the owner has the sweetest pups) -Joes Garage (Joe and Matt are the absolute best, ask for Matt and say you know Bob)

-Muchacha (spanish music)

-Tavern

-Inside Out (the best place from 1-3am)

-Grand Cafe (the after spot from 2-4am)

-Stevie Rays (for the absolute worst of the worst people partying until sunrise, 4-6am)

Where to Eat

To be honest when it comes to food in this town you really won't be disappointed. I tried to narrow it down to my most most favorite spots but that was hard to do!

- Nah Nah Bah (best burgers)

-Dragon Sushi (15€ all you can eat sushi)

-Abigail's Cafe (great vegan options, get the brownie)

-Churrasqueira Praça d'Armas (best local spot, the chicken with lemon butter and fries>>)

-Black and White Cafe

-Coffee and waves

-The garden (cutest garden vibes)

-Beats and Burritos (best Mexican)

-Illicit burgers

-Barbosa

-Beer and co

Things to do

Aside from the insane parties, yummy food joints, and all around great vibes walking old town there are plenty of things to keep you busy during the day before your long night out.

-Kayak Tours

-Booze cruises

-Pro Putting Garden (this place is super fun)

-Walk the cliffs to the lighthouse

-Batata Beach

-Praia De Camilo

-Praia de Dona Ana

-Benagil Caves (30 min drive but so worth it)

-Walk Old Town

-Wakeboard Park

-Day trip to Sagres

-Visit Mama at the rising cock hostel :)

-Tattoo's (924, Fernando Silva, or Blackship Tattoo)

Although I could write an entire book about how amazing this place is, you might just have to visit it yourself and see what im talking about. You won't regret it! I hope you found this little guide helpful and as always, let me know if you hit any of these spots!
